N. Franklin amends oil, gas ordinance
North Franklin Township supervisors amended the local oil and gas ordinance to reflect changes over the past decade in the Marcellus Shale natural gas drilling industry.
The changes mostly involved adding or refining definitions to various drilling practices and setting reasonable conditions on them, said township solicitor Gary Sweat.
He said the ordinance also was amended to require drilling operators to submit considerably more information about their practices when applying for a conditional-use permit.
Currently there are no drilling operations underway in the township.
