The Greene County Farmland Preservation is looking for landowners to apply for the agricultural conservation easement program through the end of the year.

Landowners must be enrolled in an agricultural security area of at least 500 acres. In Greene County, there are eight townships with those areas, including Center, Cumberland, Franklin, Greene, Jefferson, Morgan, Washington and Wayne.

Landowners also must have at least 50 acres, have 50 percent of the soils on the parcel under consideration in soil capability classes 1-4, be available for agricultural production, and contain more than 50 percent or 10 acres of harvested cropland, pasture or grazing land.

The highest ranking farm can continue through the easement process with a $2,000 deposit, which will be returned to them when the process is completed, according to the Farmland Preservation.

For more information, call the Farmland Preservation office at 724-852-5278.
