Woman accused of stealing from McGuffey cheerleader boosters
A Donegal Township woman was charged Tuesday by township police with theft by failure to make required disposition of funds after she allegedly failed to turn over money from concession stand sales to the McGuffey Cheerleaders Booster Club last fall.
The charge against Kiley Degarmo, 35, of 11 Interstate Drive, Claysville, will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Ethan Ward in the theft of about $1,800 from the club.
Degarmo reportedly received a check for $500 from the club to cover the start-up costs for opening the concession operation to raise money for the club. The check was reportedly made out to cash, posted on Sept. 14, and issued by the club’s treasurer. It was reportedly cashed by Degarmo’s mother.
Police indicate in court documents that Degarmo ran the concession from Sept. 12 through Oct. 20 and was to submit cash and receipts. After repeated attempts to retrieve the receipts and cash generated from the concession stand by the treasurer and president failed, the two contacted police.
Police checked documentation, including the check given to Degarmo as well as text messages sent to her by both the booster club president and treasurer.
The club also gave police an estimate of the revenue that were likely generated from the four events. The estimate, which included the $500 advance money, was $1,800.
A preliminary hearing will be scheduled before Ward.
