Canonsburg man accused of assaulting former girlfriend
A Canonsburg man was arrested Thursday night by borough police after he allegedly assaulted his former girlfriend during a confrontation at her home.
Adam Andrew Snatchko Jr., 21, of 502 Giffin Ave., is accused of assaulting the 21-year-old woman inside her home at 29 E. Pitt St.
Police were called to East Pitt just before 11 p.m. for a report of a partially clothed woman carrying a child running down the street from a man.
Police found the 21-year-old woman at another home on East Pitt. She told police that Snatchko had been staying with her for about three days. When he came home Thursday night, she said he was intoxicated. The two reportedly were arguing and he allegedly grabbed her by the throat and started to squeeze her neck. She told police that she was able to break free, grab her son and flee the apartment.
Police said Snatchko initially fled but returned, prompting the woman to again run from him. Police said they entered the apartment and found Snatchko hiding under a child’s bed in a rear bedroom.
Police said Snatchko resisted as they took him to the cruiser. Once inside, he reportedly banged his head off the divider, cutting his scalp. After he was treated at the police station by emergency medical personnel, police said he acted as though he was having a convulsion. When one of the medics noted that Snatchko was not behaving as a person who was convulsing normally would, police said they saw the suspect open one eye and look at them. He was taken to Canonsburg Hospital and medically cleared by a doctor before he was transported to Washington County jail to await arraignment.
Snatchko was arraigned before District Judge Gary Havelka on charges of aggravated and simple assault, reckless endangerment, terroristic threats and resisting arrest. His bond was set at $20,000. A preliminary hearing on the charges is scheduled for Jan. 25 before District Judge David Mark.
