Firefighters use a boat to rescue a man from Chartiers Creek near Frosty Valley Golf Links.

Crews from several fire departments rescued a man from Chartiers Creek near the seventh hole of Frosty Valley Golf Links off Boyce Road in Upper St. Clair Wednesday morning.

Andrew Brams, 32, attempted to cross the creek as a shortcut to a local convenience store near Mayview Road when he got stranded in the deep, quick-moving water, according to Upper St. Clair police Chief Doug Burkholder.

Four local fire departments – Fairview, Cecil Township No. 1 Lawrence, Upper St. Clair and Bridgeville – responded to the call that came in at 9:11 a.m. after an individual walking on the golf course heard Brams’ screams for help.

The South Hills Area Council of Governments Technical Rescue Team also provided standby support.

According to Fairview Fire Department Chief Dan Dernosek, crews conducted a successful boat rescue to pull Brams from the frigid waters at about 10:20 a.m. He had been in the water for about an hour and had removed his pants. When rescued, he was wearing only underwear and a T-shirt.

Brams, who was able to stand on his own after exiting the creek, was hypothermic. He was taken to St. Clair Hospital in Mt. Lebanon by ambulance.
