Bill to name bridge for slain officer advances
A bill to dedicate a local bridge to honor slain Canonsburg police Officer Scott Bashioum has been reported out of the House Transportation Committee and now moves to the House for further consideration, said state Rep. Brandon Neuman, D- North Strabane, the legislation’s sponsor.
“Naming the Central Avenue Bridge over Chartiers Creek as the Officer Scott L. Bashioum Memorial Bridge would provide a lasting testament to this local hero who served and sacrificed so much in so many ways,” Neuman said. “More than 50 of my fellow representatives have joined me in co-sponsoring this bill to remember Officer Bashioum.”
Bashioum, 52, was slain in the early hours of Nov. 10 responding to a domestic violence report along Woodcrest Drive in the borough. The alleged shooter, who took his own life, also killed 28-year-old Dalia Sabae, who was pregnant at the time of her death.
