Woman faces assault charges
A Washington woman was arrested Tuesday night after she allegedly assaulted her grandmother and then spit twice on a city police officer as he tried to take her into custody.
Naadia Dates, 23, of 224 Linn Ave., also is accused of kicking the rear door of a city police cruiser, damaging it.
Police were called at 10:15 p.m. to her home for a report of an intoxicated person. When police arrived, they reportedly could hear Dates screaming from inside the house.
When police entered the home, they said an officer tried to prevent Dates from further assaulting her 64-year-old grandmother, but that she was able to punch the woman in the face. Police said the 64-year-old victim had facial bruising.
Police struggled with Dates to take her into custody, and Dates allegedly kicked Officer Matthew Karlowsky in the chest and spit in his face twice.
Police said they had to pick up Dates to get her into the police cruiser.
Once inside, she allegedly kicked a rear door, damaging it to the point that it could not be unlocked.
Dates was arraigned before District Judge Gary Havelka on charges of simple and aggravated assault, resisting arrest and institutional vandalism. She was placed in Washington County jail on $10,000 bond.
She is scheduled for a July 19 preliminary hearing before District Judge Robert Redlinger.
