Sadler arraigned on additional charges

A Washington man accused of stealing a pickup truck from a Good Samaritan in Allegheny County faces additional counts of burglary, theft and unauthorized use of a credit card.
Ivan Sadler, 54, whose last address was on Elm Street, was arraigned Monday morning from Washington County jail via video hookup by District Judge Robert Redlinger, who set bond at a total of $25,000.
City police charged Sadler with the theft of a 2016 Kia Sportage belonging to Jeri Williams of Woodland Avenue, which was parked outside her home the night of July 7. Her home also was broken into, and stolen were purses, credit and debit cards, and car keys and luggage keys belonging to Williams and her daughter, Alexandra Fullum, who discovered at 6 a.m. the morning of July 8 the vehicle was missing.
The stolen credit and debit cards were used, or attempted to be used, at the GetGo gasoline and convenience store and Walmart, both in South Strabane Township, and at a BP gasoline station in Bentleyville, according to surveillance footage police obtained.
Sadler made news in connection with the crash of Williams’ vehicle on Interstate 79 southbound near the Carnegie exit in Collier Township during the early morning hours of July 9. Drivers who witnessed the wreck and stopped to help Sadler included Todd Krut, 54, of Claysville. While Krut was checking the Kia for passengers, police claim Sadler got into Krut’s truck and began to drive off, dragging Krut, who attempted to stop the theft, for about 100 feet before he fell to the road. Krut was taken to Allegheny General Hospital for treatment.
State police took Sadler into custody July 12 after reportedly finding him in possession of a stolen vehicle on Moore Road in West Finley Township. Sadler was arraigned July 13 by District Judge Ethan Ward on charges of receiving stolen property and giving false identification to a law enforcement officer. Ward set bond at $25,000 and scheduled a preliminary hearing for Aug. 21.
Sadler also is charged with burglary, criminal trespass, theft and unlawful use of a credit card in connection with a break-in July 5 at the office of Washington-East Washington Joint Authority, 2 Wilson Ave., during a time when it was closed to the public but employees were on the premises.
City police accused Sadler of forcing his way into the building and claiming he was making a delivery. While inside, he is charged with stealing a purse owned by Sherry Blake. Another employee saw a purse strap sticking out from under Sadler’s shirt and chased him, but he was able to escape, police said.
Blake canceled her credit cards, but the next day, a Lowe’s credit card was used to make an $80 purchase. Police obtained surveillance footage of a man they identified as Sadler at the home improvement store, and stated in an affidavit Blake was able to identify Sadler from a photo array.
In yet another set of charges, Sadler is accused of conspiring with a woman and using a stolen Visa card to make an $81 purchase Jan. 4 at the GetGo store at 104 E. Wylie Ave.
Sadler has been unable to post bond and remains in the county jail. There is no firm preliminary hearing date at Redlinger’s office for the charges on which Sadler was arraigned Monday.
