Canon-McMillan commencement today
Canon-McMillian High School will hold commencement exercises at 7 p.m. Thursday at Canon-Mac Stadium.
The valedictorian is Kayla Ruslavage, and the salutatorian is Zachary Myers. Anthony Popovski is the class president, and Andrew Balog is the honor graduate.
Ruslavage, daughter of Charles and Valerie Ruslavage of Canonsburg, is vice president of student council and member of the Spanish National Honor Society. She has received the Swanson School of Engineering Scholarship, the National Merit Scholar Commendation, the Chancellors Nominee Scholarship from the University of Pittsburgh and the North Strabane Township Scholarship. She has participated on the Canon-Mac varsity tennis team and was a co-captain her senior year. Ruslavage plans to attend the University of Pittsburgh to pursue a degree in chemical engineering.
Myers, son of Susan and Randall Myers of North Strabane, is a squad leader in the marching band and member of the National Honor Society. He is vice president of the Spanish Honor Society and a member of the Spanish Club, symphonic band, drama club and International Thespian Society. Myers received the College Scholar Award from the College of Wooster and the Academic Excellence Award from the Challenge Program. He plans to attend the College of Wooster to pursue a degree in economics.
Balog, son of Elwood and Beth Balog of Canonsburg, is a National Merit Scholar finalist and AP Scholar with distinction. He has served as treasurer of the National Honor Society and is a member of the Spanish and chemistry clubs. Balog has received the Pennsylvania State Employees Credit Union Scholarship, the Prem Sharma Memorial Scholarship and the Brown Foundation Scholar Award from Texas A&M University. He plans to attend Texas A&M University to pursue a degree in chemical engineering.
