California to honor 70 seniors today

California Area High School will hold commencement exercises for 70 seniors at 6 p.m. Friday in the high school’s gymnasium.

There are three valedictorians and two salutatorians. The valedictorians are Nathaniel James Luketich, LeeAnna Marie Roberts and Dakota Jean Staley. The salutatorians are Kristopher Bryce Hite and Joshua Hunter Peters.

Luketich, the son of Kevin and Pamela Luketich of Scenery Hill, is the vice president of the National Honor Society and class secretary. He has volunteered for the Washington Hospital and has played on the golf, basketball and baseball teams. Luketich received the Western Pennsylvania Golf Association Scholarship and he plans to attend the University of Pittsburgh to purse a degree in chemistry and engineering.

Roberts, the daughter of Anthony and Laurie Roberts of Coal Center, is the secretary of both the National Honor Society and SADD Club. She has received the St. Timothy Award, the Vulcan Merit Scholarship and the Mary Noss Scholarship. Roberts plans to attend the California University of Pennsylvania to pursue a degree in communication disorders.

Staley, the daughter of Amy VanDivner of Brownsville and George Staley of Brownsville, is the president of the class, student council and National Honor Society. She has received the Pamela J. Antonio Memorial Scholarship, the Liberty Scholarship from Robert Morris University and the Honors Program Scholarship from Robert Morris University, Staley plans to attend Robert Morris University to pursue a degree in psychology.

Hite, the son of Kris and Tammy Hite of Daisytown, is the treasurer of the National Honor Society and captain of BotsIQ. He received the BCR Lions Scholarship, the Patricia O’ Neil Wilson Memorial Scholarship and the Florida Institute of Technology Presidential Scholarship. Hite plans to attend the Florida Institute of Technology to pursue a degree in biomedical engineering.

Peters, the son of Ronald and Kimberly Peters of Scenery Hill, is the class vice president and president of the Envirothon and the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science Club. He has received the Penn State Presidential Scholarship and placed first in the state science competition in State College. Peters plans to attend Penn State University to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering.
