Waynesburg Lions Club to kick off concert series

WAYNESBURG – After the success of last year’s summer concert series, the Waynesburg Lions Club Sounds of Summer is back with nine weeks of free performances beginning Monday.
The club decided to start this year’s evenings of music in June rather than July to escape the heat of August and will host two-hour concerts that start at 5:30 p.m. each Tuesday in Waynesburg Lions Club Community Park on Oak View Drive near the aquatic park.
But to kick off the season, the Fabulous Hubcaps, a well-known oldies band from Baltimore, will play at the Waynesburg Central High School Auditorium from 6:30 until 9 p.m. Monday.
“When we booked the Hubcaps, we knew they were so popular we needed a larger location and Monday was the only date we could use the auditorium,” Lions Club member Eleanor Chapman said. “We’ve already received calls from all over asking for tickets and reservations and we tell them it’s free, just show up on June 5 at 6 p.m. and get in line.”
“Our major mission is helping the blind and visually impaired but we want to help the community and music is something everyone can enjoy,” Lion Deshirl Yesenosky said. “We encourage everyone to bring eyeglasses to the concerts for a donation.”
This year, the Lions Club Fourth of July Celebration at the Greene County Fairgrounds falls on a Tuesday, so the free concert with Union Sound Treaty will be there as well, Yesenosky added.
“All our other Tuesday concerts will be at the Lions Club Community Park,” Yesenosky said. “Bring your lawn chairs and have a good time.”
