Washington County Conservation District is monitoring Froman Run in Union Township after about 200 gallons of bentonite spilled last week from a natural gas pipeline drilling project.

The June 2 spill of the nontoxic drilling mud into the small stream along Route 88 near Mingo Church Road was considered minor, said Lauren Fraley, spokeswoman for the state Department of Environmental Protection.

Sunoco Logistics Partners developed the pipeline. Drilling is typically halted after such a spill until the company corrects the issue, Fraley said.
