Greene County commissioners have decided to separate Children and Youth Services from Greene County Human Services umbrella of county departments.

Commissioner Blair Zimmerman said it was a decision the board has been talking about for a while.

“We really needed a full-time focus on CYS as well as on the other side with mental health and budget stuff,” he said.

The switch is a promotion for Stacey Courtwright, the director of CYS, who will now be reporting directly to the commissioners instead of to Karen Bennett, the administrator of human services.

“I’m excited that the commissioners have elevated the agency to that level and I’m glad that they have faith in me to lead the agency,” she said. “The first and number one goal is to protect the children of Greene County.”

Zimmerman said the change will allow Bennett to focus her time more on mental health and drug and alcohol services.
