Canonsburg post office renaming moves forward

The U.S. Post Office in Canonsburg is one step closer to being renamed in honor of a fallen officer.
Legislation to rename the building at 120 W. Pike St. the “Police Officer Scott Bashioum Post Office Building,” was unanimously approved by the Senate.
The legislation, introduced by U.S. Sens. Pat Toomey and Bob Casey, needs adoption by the House of Representatives before it can be signed into law.
Bashioum was killed in the line of duty while responding to a domestic violence call on Nov. 10.
“Officer Scott Bashioum spent his entire adult life making his community and our country safer,” said Toomey. “He embodied what it means to be a public servant and it’s important that we properly honor Officer Bashioum’s life and legacy. Renaming the post office in Canonsburg is a small, but appropriate step, in this effort. It is my hope that we can get this bill to the President’s desk soon.”
Companion legislation has been introduced in the House by Rep. Tim Murphy, R-18th District.
