BELLE VERNON – A Donora man is in custody on charges he threatened the mother of his young son with a gun during a custody exchange Monday at a Rostraver Township shopping plaza.

District Judge Charles Christner sent John William Duchi Jr., 28, to Westmoreland County jail on $50,000 bond after township police went from business to business looking for him in a shopping district along Rostraver Road.

The alleged victim, Angeleque McWilliams, told police she agreed to meet Duchi at a hotel on Finley Road, and from there they went in separate vehicles to a nearby Kmart, where Duchi was to turn over the child to his mother, police stated in the affidavit supporting the criminal charges in the case.

McWilliams said she walked over to the vehicle where her son was in the backseat about 11 a.m., at which time Duchi “displayed a handgun, and rested the barrel on the door pointed at McWilliams and told her he had something for her,” court records allege.

McWilliams then backed off, telling Duchi she was calling the police.

Police said Duchi then parked the car at Walmart on Sara Way and stashed the weapon in the trunk before walking away with his 4-year-old son.

Police said the two were spotted at a nearby McDonald’s and eventually were found at Eat’n Park.

The handgun proved to be stolen, and its serial number had been scratched off, police said.

Duchi, of 466 Third St., is charged with possession of a firearm with an altered serial number, carrying a firearm without a license, person prohibited from possessing a firearm, making terroristic threats, reckless endangerment, receiving stolen property and simple assault.
