A West Finley Township man accused of hitting a state police trooper with his car in South Franklin Township Friday is in Washington County jail facing several charges.

Zackhary Clayton Jones, 21, of 896 Rocky Run Road, was taken into custody without incident about 11:30 p.m. Saturday in Washington, state police said. He was arraigned Sunday morning before District Judge David Mark on two counts each of aggravated assault on a police officer and aggravated assault and one count each of carrying a firearm without a license and fleeing or eluding police.

Troopers Brian Rousseau and Raymond Harding said they were in the 200 block of Game Lands Road near Templeton Road in South Franklin about 11:30 p.m. Friday when they spotted a suspicious vehicle. Jones was identified as the driver, police said.

As the two troopers approached the vehicle, they said it was discovered Jones had a gun. Harding reached into the car in an attempt to secure the gun, police said. Jones accelerated his car and began to flee, striking Harding, police said. In fear of death or serious injury, both troopers fired multiple rounds in an attempt to stop Jones, police said. He did not stop, fleeing the scene on Templeton, police said.

Harding received medical treatment for the injuries he received when he was hit by the car. Troopers from several stations searched the area after the incident, but were not immediately able to locate Jones.

Jones is in jail on a $250,000 bond set by Mark. He faces a July 7 preliminary hearing before District Judge Ethan Ward.
