Charleroi man dies after being hit by train
A Charleroi man died Monday night of injuries suffered when he was struck by a northbound Norfolk Southern train while walking along the tracks near Fifth Street in Charleroi.
James J. Carpenter, 45, was hit by the train just before 5 p.m. He was taken to Monongahela Valley Hospital, where he was pronounced dead about an hour later, said Washington County Coroner Tim Warco.
Charleroi Regional police and Norfolk Southern police are investigating. Charleroi firefighters also assisted.
