Incumbent Joe Manning, a Democrat, and former councilman Matthew Staniszewski, who ran on both party tickets, were elected to Washington city council in Tuesday’s general election.

Manning, who’s entering his third four-year term, led the voting with 38.7 percent and 801 votes. Manning, 56, of Duncan Avenue, is a retired city firefighter and the director of a small marketing company in the area.

“I’m very humbled, very honored that my fellow citizens cast their votes for me and I’m very happy to continue the work that I’ve been doing,” Manning said late Tuesday.

Manning said he looks forward to continuing his work on city projects, like the renovations on the pavilion in Washington Park.

“We’re in the process of doing our budget and getting that wrapped up and just moving the city forward,” he said.

Staniszewski, 40, of Buttonwood Avenue, had 734 votes, or 35.4 percent. He previously served eight years on council, from 2006 to 2014.

“I want to thank my family, friends and all the voters of the city of Washington for their confidence in me to bring good ideas and to serve them for four years on the council,” Staniszewski said Tuesday night.

Staniszewski spent three years working as the director of community and economic development in New Castle, but recently moved back to Washington. Now he’s the manager of Homestead Borough in Allegheny County.

“I look forward to working collaboratively with the mayor and members of council to make the city of Washington a better place to live, work, raise a family and retire,” he said.

Republican Terry Faust, 63, of McKinley Avenue, also a former councilman, failed to win a seat. He had 25.1 percent of the vote, with 520 votes. Faust, who owns HVAC Consultants in Washington, previously served on the council from 2008 to 2015.
