Smith woman arrested on drug charges for second time in three weeks
A Smith Township woman scheduled to appear in district court Thursday on drug charges filed against her stemming from a traffic stop last month by township police found herself being arraigned on more drug charges for allegedly selling suspected cocaine to a confidential informant two weeks before that stop.
Adele Mae Kinkela, 42, of 1927 Smith Township Road (Route 18), Slovan, had been scheduled for a preliminary hearing before District Judge Gary Havelka on three counts each of possession and possession with intent to deliver cocaine and other controlled substances and one count of possession of paraphernalia.
Kinkela had been stopped Oct. 21 by police on Smith Township Road near Erie Mine Road. They found her with 6.7 grams of suspected cocaine, five straws with cocaine residue, and suspected Ecstasy, oxycodone, methadone, morphine and other narcotic pills. She also reportedly admitted to selling drugs in the Smith and Burgettstown area. Kinkela was arraigned on those charges and released the following day after posting $10,000 bond.
Police were aware of Kinkela after they also received reports she had been selling drugs from her home.
Arrangements were made by township police with a confidential informant to buy cocaine from Kinkela Oct. 10 and 12. The drug field-tested positive as being cocaine.
Police obtained a warrant for her arrest Monday from District Judge David Mark.
“This is her second arrest with three weeks,” said Chief Bernie LaRue. “We got the warrant for her and kept an eye on her house, but there wasn’t much movement so we decided to wait to serve it when she went for her hearing.”
Kinkela was arraigned before Havelka on the latest charges of two counts of possession and possession with intent to deliver cocaine and possession of paraphernalia. She was placed in Washington County jail on $25,000 bond. Kinkela will have a preliminary hearing on both sets of charges Nov. 30 before Havelka.
