Range Resources took to the streets Friday to make sure everyone in Washington County gets to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal this year.

The company joined forces with Greater Washington County Food Bank to raise money and collect food for families in need this holiday season.

“Washington County is a small, close-knit community, and we don’t want our neighbors going without Thanksgiving dinner,” said Laural Ziemba, director of public affairs for Range Resources.

Range employee volunteers stood at the corners of Main and Wheeling streets in downtown Washington, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, asking people driving by and stopped in traffic for cash and check donations for the food bank’s 2000 Turkeys campaign.

The campaign’s goal is to raise $100,000 to distribute Thanksgiving meals to more than 5,500 families in Washington County. Ziemba said $15 feeds a family of four at Thanksgiving. She also said Range is one of the biggest contributors to the campaign, with its annual fundraiser and food drive.

She said they started holding the one-day fundraiser three years ago and raised $8,700. Last year, the number they raised on the streets grew to $22,000, which was in addition to $25,000 the company donated to the campaign.

This year, the company’s goal was to raise more than $22,000, and they plan to again donate $25,000 to the campaign. Range also served 200 Thanksgiving-style meals at Washington City Mission Friday as part of its donation.
