A number of criminal defendants appeared before Greene County Judge Lou Dayich Nov. 14 for sentencing.

Adam D. Smith, 36, of 339 Grant St., Nemacolin, for delivery of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. On Feb. 5, Cumberland Township police purchased five stamp bags of heroin from Smith. Sentence – 40 days in jail, deferred for a total of four years of county intermediate punishment, 40 hours community service. Smith also faced a parole violation from a domestic incident in 2016 and was given a $1,000 fine, 125 hours of community service and a concurrent deferred jail sentence. Smith also pleaded guilty to two misdemeanors, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. As Cumberland Township police attempted to serve an arrest warrant June 20, they found 30 white pills in his pocket. He was given a sentence concurrent to the previous two cases of two years of probation, a $100 fine and 40 hours of community service.

Richard G. Dunfee III, 33, of 21 Circle St., Mather, for delivery of a controlled substance and false identification to law enforcement. Greene County Regional police witnessed Dunfee during a drug transaction, then Dunfee gave police a false name during a traffic stop. Sentence – one to five years in jail and one year of probation.

Donald Lee Smotzer, 42, of 103 First St., Greensboro, for retail theft. Smotzer reportedly stole a smartphone from a Verizon store in Franklin Township and later returned it, state police said. Sentence – 30 days to 23 and a half months in jail, to be served on a weekend basis, $200 fine and 40 hours of community service.

Nathan Ryan Phillips, 23, of 109 Black Creek Road, Wind Ridge, for burglary, criminal conspiracy and theft by unlawful taking. Phillips reportedly assisted in a break in of Burger King in 2015 where $3,666 was stolen. He was re-sentenced due to a parole violation. Sentence – nine months to 23 months in jail, three years of probation and 100 hours of community service.
