Donora woman wanted in Monessen abuse case
MONESSEN – A Donora woman is wanted by Monessen police on charges she abused a bedridden man who had employed her as his caretaker.
District Judge Joseph Dalfonso signed a warrant Tuesday for the arrest of Miriam E. Kinds, 40, of 732 Thompson Ave. on accusations she threatened the man with a stick and also dumped a bucket of excrement on him last month at his Knox Avenue home, court records show.
A police officer was sent to the home about 5:50 p.m. Oct. 10 to investigate a complaint about an unwanted woman in the residence. The officer was unable to go inside because of an “overwhelming odor” in the residence that he feared was a health risk, police noted in the affidavit supporting the criminal charges in the case.
“It was obvious the household was in a deplorable state,” he stated in the court document.
The officer later spoke with the man on the phone and learned the man had entered into an oral agreement with Kinds to cook for him, as well as clean and bathe him, and she had been paid for the work on a regular basis.
Theman accused Kinds of coming to his home demanding money and threatening him at his bedside with a stick, the record indicates. He further complained to the officer a day earlier she had thrown excrement at him.
The officer summoned the Western Area Crisis Team, who determined the man hadn’t been receiving adequate care and his condition had diminished due to improper care. He was taken to a hospital that day.
Kinds was charged with neglect of care, making terroristic threats, theft, harassment and disorderly conduct.
