Ringgold student had BB gun on bus
A student at Ringgold Middle School displayed a BB gun on a school bus and allowed other students to hold it, district officials said.
The incident occurred during an afternoon ride on bus 52 last Thursday, according to a letter posted on the Ringgold School District website the next day. It was signed by building principal James Klugh.
The student was not identified because of his or her age.
Dr. Karen Pokabla, Ringgold’s superintendent, declined to comment specifically about the incident. “Student discipline is not something the school district can share,” she said.
The district received information from “concerned individuals” that the incident occurred. Administrators, according to the letter, were told of the incident Friday morning.
The missive goes on to state: “Once school administrators were made aware of the situation, the student in question was kept in the office and away from the other students. … After a thorough investigation by school administrators, security and police officers, it was determined that a student did have a BB gun on bus 52 and displayed it for other students to view and hold.”
The district added the BB gun was not discharged and there were no injuries.
The letter urged parents to talk to their children about the importance of school safety.
In closing, the letter advises “students to feel comfortable reporting any information they may have that compromises their safety and the safety of others.”
