South Strabane man faces gun, drug charges
A South Strabane Township man was arrested Wednesday during a traffic stop by Washington County sheriff’s deputies in South Strabane.
Thomas Thammavong, 20, of 168 Oak Spring Road, was stopped by deputies just after 8 p.m. near the intersection of Washington Road after they noticed a taillight was out on his vehicle.
As deputies approached the vehicle, they said they could smell an odor of marijuana. During a search of the vehicle, they said they found a loaded Springfield .45-caliber semiautomatic handgun that had been reported stolen. The serial number on the gun had been altered.
Also found inside the vehicle were 37 grams of suspected cocaine, suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia, including a scale, the deputies said.
Thammavong was arraigned before District Judge Curtis Thompson on charges of possession of cocaine and marijuana, possession with intent to deliver cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, receiving stolen property, possessing a firearm with an altered manufacturer’s number and possessing a firearm without a license. He was placed in Washington County jail on $20,000 bond. He is scheduled for an Oct. 10 preliminary hearing before District Judge Jay Weller.
