Trinity Area, Washington and Canon-McMillan school districts have been awarded grants totaling $15,000 to bolster students’ career readiness.

State Rep. Brandon Neuman, D- North Strabane, said Trinity and Washington will share a $10,000 Career Readiness Mini-Grant to provide job experience, skills training, interviewing tips, professional mentoring from local employers and classroom instruction from Southwest Training Services of Washington.

“As noted in the schools’ application, the grant partnership enables Trinity and Washington to streamline the training and mentoring offered by community agencies and provide greater access to resources for both schools,” Neuman said. “Students from both schools also will attend career and college readiness events on a regular basis.”

Neuman said Canon-McMillan’s $5,000 grant will bolster partnerships with employers, unions, civic groups and other organizations and individuals to secure gainful employment before graduation for about 60 career-bound students.

“It’s a communitywide effort that will include an open house and an end-of-the-year luncheon to encourage and foster success,” he said.

Neuman said the local Career Readiness Mini-Grants were awarded by Gov. Tom Wolf, the state Department of Labor & Industry and Team Pennsylvania, a non-partisan nonprofit created in 1997 to bring government and private sector leaders together for the betterment of Pennsylvania.

The local funding is among $270,000 in grants awarded to 64 school districts statewide.
