Two teenage brothers are in a juvenile detention center facing allegations stemming from an alleged assault last week of a fellow student at Belle Vernon Area High School.
Rostraver Township police Chief Gregory Resetar said the 16- and 14-year-old siblings face juvenile allegations including aggravated assault and simple assault in connection with an incident about 8:30 a.m. Oct. 9 at the school.
“The only thing that I can get into is that there was a physical altercation involving the juveniles,” Resetar said.
Three other students reportedly broke up the fight.
Resetar confirmed the alleged victim, a 17-year-old boy, sustained facial injuries.
“I think one of the two brothers … punched the student,” said District Superintendent John Wilkinson. “The student fell down, and they jumped on top of him.”
Wilkinson said the two students were detained by administrators and suspended following the incident. An informal disciplinary hearing was later conducted, and they received 10-day, out-of-school suspensions.
Police took the students into custody while that suspension was still in effect. Wilkinson said district officials “still have five or six days”on the out-of-school suspension “to figure out what our next step will be” following the boys’ juvenile court proceedings.
