Washington Township residents can review comprehensive plan
Residents of Washington Township are invited to review and comment on the township’s recently completed draft comprehensive plan, an official document laying out strategies for the nature, pace and location of future development.
The document is available for review and copying at the township building, 112 Municipal Lane, Ruff Creek, and can be sent electronically by request.
The township undertook the comprehensive plan as an update to the general development plan, adopted in 1989. Recognizing a need to address development pressure and ensure future investments consistent with the vision of township residents, the project began in February 2016 and has involved a steering committee comprised of the seven-member township planning commission and six additional community members.
The committee’s work was guided by input from residents through a mailed survey and four public meetings held as part of the plan development process. The draft contains priorities and recommendations for economics, housing, community facilities, environment, transportation and land use development.
The public comment period for the plan extends through Nov. 30. The township will hold a public hearing Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. to receive any further comments. The hearing will be held at the UMWA Career Center, 197 Dunn Station Road in Ruff Creek. The supervisors expect to consider the plan for final adoption at their regular meeting Dec. 12.
