The man killed Thursday night when he was struck by a pickup truck as he rode his bicycle on Route 40 west of McKee Road in Buffalo Township has been identified.

Robert E. Henry, 51, was struck and killed by a pickup truck about 7:10 p.m. in front of his home in the 3400 block of Route 40, said Washington County Coroner Tim Warco. Henry was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause and manner of death are pending, Warco said.

State police said Derek Ryan Hartzog, 26, of Washington, was driving west when his truck went off the right side of the road onto the shoulder and struck the bicycle Henry was riding on the westbound shoulder.

Henry was found lying in a culvert a significant distance from where he had been hit by the truck, police said. The bicycle was found hanging on a row of nearby mailboxes.

Police said the investigation into the incident is continuing.

Assisting at the scene were firefighters from Canton and North Franklin townships and Claysville, Donegal Township police and Ambulance and Chair Service.
