East Bethlehem Township received $51,500 from the local share of gambling revenue generated from The Meadows Racetrack & Casino to demolish a building formerly known as Taylor’s gasoline station, 540 Front St.

MJ Woodhouse LLP, the low bidder in a process advertised by the Washington County Redevelopment Authority, was awarded the demolition and site clearance contract.

The township has plans to repurpose the site to support the townships’ public boat and kayak launch.

Joe Swinchock, president of the township board of commissioners, said, “Coal mining is never coming back to our area. The township is trying to develop river recreation and that’s what we’re going to have to strive for.”
