A Donora man was jailed Friday for allegedly assaulting two children while they were in his care.

Jason Scott Stasicha, 22, of 549 Thompson Ave., was arraigned before District Judge Traci McDonald on charges of endangering the welfare of children, simple assault and reckless endangerment. He was placed in Washington County jail on $25,000 bond.

According to Donora police, Monongahela Valley Hospital emergency department staff suspected child abuse and called for an officer. Two boys, ages 3 and 1, were brought to the hospital by their mother, who said she left the boys with her boyfriend, Stasicha, at a home in Donora while she was at work Thursday.

Police said a hand-shaped bruise was noted on the 1-year-old’s face, and the 3-year-old allegedly had a hand-shaped bruise on his back, bruising on his face and a cut lip.

Officers located Stasicha at his mother’s home in Charleroi. He agreed to go to the Charleroi police station, where he allegedly admitted he “lost control” and hit the children. Stasicha allegedly told police he didn’t realize how hard he hit them.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled before District Judge Larry Hopkins Sept. 14.
