Mom charged over 6-year-old shot by 10-year-old brother
WEST MIFFLIN, Pa. (AP) — Charges have been filed against the mother of a 6-year-old Pittsburgh-area boy who police say was shot by his 10-year-old brother.
Kayleigh Potter was charged Friday with endangering the welfare of children, illegally possessing marijuana and lying on the paperwork when she purchased the gun that killed him.
Police say she was arrested Friday night and is being held at the Allegheny County Jail. It wasn’t known if she’s represented by a lawyer.
Officers and paramedics sent to a West Mifflin home Aug. 9 found the wounded child. He died later at a hospital.
Police say the older boy fired the gun in the bedroom of Potter, who officials say was at work at the time. Police say he first called his mother and then called 911 at her urging.
