A 13-year-old Washington girl told city police a man tried to lure her and her friend into his white car in the 300 block of Maple Avenue Wednesday night.

The girl and her friend were walking about 7:30 p.m. They told police the man initially drove by and asked “Do you want a ride?” A few minutes later, he reportedly drove by again before fleeing the area, turning left onto Summerlea Avenue.

The second girl took a photograph of the vehicle and the license plate with her cellphone. They said the driver was white or possibly of Asian descent. He was in his 30s with black hair.

Police were able to determine the car was a 2014 Ford Focus through the registration.

Police checked the area but were not able to locate the vehicle. Police are continuing their investigation and plan to talk with the registered owner, a Washington County man.

This is the second report of an attempt to lure a child in Washington County in less than a week. On Sept. 15, McDonald police received a report of an apparent attempt to lure a 10-year-old Burgettstown girl after she got off the school bus near her home.

The girl’s father told police it happened about 3:25 p.m., when his daughter got off the bus near the intersection of Hillcrest Avenue and Frederick Street. She reportedly encountered a man and woman near Lee and Martin Funeral Home, 73 Highland Ave.

One of them reportedly asked the girl “Do you want to come with us?.” The girl started running because she was scared, police said. The two reportedly ran after her, but stopped. No one else was seen in the area and no vehicle was seen.
