Greene court cases
WAYNESBURG – Seven criminal defendants pleaded guilty and were sentenced last week by Greene County Court Judge Lou Dayich.
Price A. Cheek, 31, of 151 Behm Road, Wind Ridge; offenses – simple assault, harassment; a charge of aggravated assault was withdrawn; March 24, Cheek assaulted a state Department of Transportation employee at a road construction site in Jackson Township. He shoved the employee, who fell and struck his head on a tree; sentence – 15 days to 23 ½ months in jail; $200 fine; 45 hours of community service.
Cody Michael Redmond, 23, of 505 Old Waynesburg Road, Carmichaels; offenses – burglary, criminal trespass, flight to avoid apprehension; Dec. 14, 2015, Redmond broke into a house on Sheridan Avenue in Nemacolin, looking for the occupant; when police attempted to arrest him in Cumberland Township April 26, he fled on foot; sentence – 6 to 59 ½ months in jail, credit for time served from April 26; $982 in restitution; 100 hours of community service.
Eleanor L. Smith, 54, of 389 Grant St., Nemacolin; offense – violation of the public welfare code; between Oct. 1, 2014, and July 31, 2015, Smith received $3,750 from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, while failing to disclose her husband’s employment and wages; sentence – 7 years of probation, restitution, 90 hours of community service.
Ryan Christopher O’Hara, 26, of 224 Twin Lakes Road, Somerset; offenses – simple assault, harassment; Jan. 11, while an inmate at the Greene County Jail, he and another man assaulted another inmate, using a toothbrush in an attempt to extract tobacco they believe the man had hidden in a body cavity and kicking him in the ribs and stomach; sentence – 2 years of probation, 150 hours of community service.
Wayne A. Knisley Jr., 63, of 247 Lippencott Run Road, Waynesburg; offenses – accidents involving damage to attended vehicle, duty to give information and render aid, a summary traffic violation; after his vehicle crashed into another vehicle May 1 in Mather, Knisley left the scene; sentence – 1 year of probation, $125 in fines.
Teresa Barth, 38, of 304 Jennings Ave., Waynesburg; offenses – two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, one summary traffic violation; following a traffic stop Feb. 17, 2016, Barth had a blood-alcohol content of 0.182 percent; following a traffic stop March 31, she had a BAC of 0.111 percent; sentence – 30 days to 12 months in jail; $1,125 in fines, 50 hours of community service.
Nathan Ryan Phillips, 23, of 43 E. Elm St., Waynesburg; offenses – no contest plea to criminal trespass, harassment, public drunkenness, disorderly conduct; May 6, Phillips was asked to leave another apartment at the same address after becoming intoxicated; he refused to leave and was eventually pushed outside by the occupants; he then attempted to re-enter the apartment; sentence – 20 days to 1 year in jail, $200 fine, 60 hours of community service.
