A free public seminar about redistricting will be held from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. April 18 in the Burnett Center Media Room at Washington & Jefferson College. The seminar is being hosted by the Washington County Bar Association as part of its public education programming. Continuing Legal Education credit is available for attorneys. Register online at www.washcobar.org (upcoming events) by email at wcba@washcobar.org or by phone, 724-225-6710.

Presenter John F. Nagle will address the question, “Why is it so difficult to create fair and responsive congressional districts?” Nagle is professor emeritus at Carnegie Mellon University, Department of Physics.

He became interested in redistricting issues in 2012 and has recently had two papers published in the Election Law Journal, “Measures of Partisan Bias for Legislating Fair Elections” and “How Competitive Should a Fair Single Member Districting Plan Be?” In addition, Washington County Director of Elections, Larry Spahr, and Washington County Solicitor, J. Lynn DeHaven, will participate in the post-seminar question-and-answer session.
