West Brownsville man jailed in child assault case
A West Brownsville man is in custody on charges he struck an infant last month in the face in his residence.
West Brownsville police Monday filed assault and related charges against Isaiah Zachary Grimes, 21, of 536 Middle St., court records show.
Police said Grimes confessed to striking the 6-month-old girl with an open hand when an officer was summoned to his residence at about 5:30 p.m. March 31.
The girl was taken to Washington Hospital and then transferred to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC, police stated in the affidavit supporting the criminal charges in the case.
The child suffered a black eye and bruising and swelling to her face, police said.
Grimes is charged with aggravated assault on a child, simple assault, reckless endangerment, harassment and disorderly conduct.
He is in Washington County jail on $25,000 bond set Monday by District Judge Joshua Kanalis.
