Deceptive business practices: Jason C. Hopkins, 38, of 148 Pine St., Jefferson, was charged Saturday with deceptive business practices, theft by deception and theft by unlawful taking. Greene County detectives received information from two alleged victims, Melvin and Barbara Markulik. The Markuliks said in an affidavit they paid Hopkins $4,200 to install a deck at their Carmichaels residence. The check was cashed Aug. 9, 2017, and no work was completed. All three charges were held for court at Hopkins’ preliminary hearing Tuesday before district Judge Lee Watson.
