Mingo Observatory to hold star party
The Mingo Creek Park Observatory will host its first star party of the season Saturday.
The party at the observatory, which is hosted by the Amateur Astronomers Association of Pittsburgh, will begin about 8 p.m.
“There are two big telescopes there and the Astronomers Association will be there with their telescopes as well,” said Lisa Cessna, director of the Washington County Planning Commission. “I think this Saturday they’re hoping that it will be relatively clear. Once the sky gets good and dark, they bring the telescopes out.”
Cessna said the association holds a star party once a month and tries to schedule them based on moon patterns and clear weather.
“If it’s bad weather, they’ll usually do something in the planetarium,” she said.
The parties are open to the public.
