- Members of the board accepted $1.1 million in federal taxpayer dollars from the Department of Housing and Urban Development to house homeless people with disabilities. The money for federal fiscal year 2017 includes $518,816 to Connect Inc. for its permanent supportive housing program; $198,643 to ARC Human Services for the Shelter Plus Care One program; $152,340 for the Washington City Mission’s Shelter Plus Care program; $94,484 for Connect Inc.’s supportive living program; and $141,425 for Connect Inc.’s Crossing Pointe program.
The commissioners also approved a $24,420 supplement with SAI Consulting Engineers for additional permit work with the state Department of Environmental Protection to be completed for the McDowell-Chartiers Creek No. 12 bridge over Canonsburg Lake.
The county approved a year-to-year lease with Kathy Damico for District Judge Joshua Kanalis’ office. Monthly rent will be $2,336, with a 3 percent annual increase.
The board also approved an agreement with Access Corrections and Keefe Supply Co. of Strongsville, Ohio, to provide video messaging service between inmates and their families. Warden Edward Strawn said at a prison board meeting Wednesday jail security monitors the communications and that hardware and software being provided free of charge.
- Public comment:
- Bill Lee, chairman of the Charleroi Regional Police Department, on behalf of students and parents, thanked the commissioners for donating a 2010 Ford Explorer for use at Charleroi Area School District. The regional police department includes Charleroi, North Charleroi, Twilight and Speers.
