DEEMSTON – A principal in West Jefferson Hills School District has been hired as Bethlehem-Center School District’s new superintendent.

The school board Monday hired Christopher Sefcheck at a salary of $115,000 a year to lead the district, board President Donald Crile said.

“He came highly recommended,” Crile said. “I feel that he’s a strong leader. We need someone at the helm to guide us in the right direction.”

More than 25 people applied for the position, and the list of candidates was narrowed to eight before Sefcheck was selected, Crile said.

Sefcheck is principal at Thomas Jefferson High School in Jefferson Hills, Allegheny County, and he also served in the U.S Air Force.

He replaces Linda Marcolini, who resigned under a separation agreement a year ago with more than a year left on her contract. Thelma Szarell, a retired superintendent from Greene County, has been serving as Beth-Center’s interim superintendent.

Sefcheck is expected to begin working at Beth-Center May 1. He could not be reached for comment Tuesday afternoon.
