Washington School District will share a federal grant of more than $103,000 with two Beaver County school districts to enable it to offer fresh fruits and vegetables to students.

The grants, which were also awarded to Aliquippa School District, Ambridge Area School District , are part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program. The program is designed to help offer healthier school meal options for students in order to improve the present and future health of young people.

The program is targeted to school districts that have a free and reduced meal eligibility of 50 percent. Nearly $5 million was awarded to elementary schools throughout Pennsylvania in the current round of funding.
