A 16-year-old Washington boy already facing a weapon violation is facing more gun-related charges after he was found with a loaded handgun that was stolen earlier this month from a pickup truck in the Tylerdale section of the city.

Police were called to the Second Avenue home after an officer with Washington County Juvenile Probation went to the boy’s home late Monday morning after the boy failed to report to a job training program.

The juvenile probation officer told the boy’s parents their son had not been attending the training. Officer Roger Frazee, who responded to the home, said the boy was referred to the program, but refused to go it.

The father reportedly took possession of the boy’s backpack. Police said the teen became very upset and did not want his father to look inside the backpack.

The boy’s parents gave police permission to look inside the backpack. The offer found a Taurus .38-caliber revolver loaded with four hollow-point rounds. When the revolver was reported stolen, it allegedly was loaded with five rounds.

The gun was reported stolen Aug. 8 to police by the owner. The weapon was entered Monday into the National Crime Information Center database when the owner brought the clerical information to the station.

The boy was previously charged with a gun violation, but Frazee was not sure of the circumstances.

Frazee is filing a juvenile allegation against the boy charging him with possession of a firearm by a minor, having a firearm without a license and receiving stolen property.

The 16-year-old was taken into custody by juvenile probation and placed in the Jefferson County (Ohio) Juvenile Detention Center.
