South Strabane police arrest two on theft charges
South Strabane Township police arrested two alleged thieves Wednesday when they apparently returned to the scene of some of their reported crimes.
Vincent Freemont Catlin, 30, of 340 Third St., Washington, and Lakyn M. Checkeye, 27, of New Paris, Bedford County, were taken into custody when personnel at Gabe’s, 460 Washington Road, called just before 1 p.m. to report the two people who allegedly stole items Saturday and last week were back in the store.
The two are accused of stealing 54 items valued at $1,182 from the store on Aug. 9 and Saturday. They fled in a silver Mercury.
Police said the two also allegedly stole items from Sam’s Club, Trinity Point, July 28 and 31 and Aug. 10. A loss prevention officer told police the two came into the store July 28 and stole two Bose mini systems and six packs of steaks. They reportedly left without paying.
On July 31, the two again allegedly entered the store and stole four more Bose mini systems and three packs of steaks. They also reportedly went into the store last week, stealing a Bose Touch system. The total loss to the store in all three thefts was $1,429.
Both were arraigned before District Judge Jay Weller on two counts of felony retail theft. They were placed in Washington County jail on $20,000 bond. The two face an Aug. 28 preliminary hearing before Weller.
