One person died Thursday morning following a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 79 in Perry Township.

A vehicle traveling south on the interstate near mile marker 3 crossed the grassy median and crashed into a northbound vehicle at 5:22 a.m., Greene County Coroner Gene Rush said in a news release.

The driver whose vehicle crossed the median died at the scene. Authorities have not released the identity of the victim.

The other driver, who also was not identified, was taken to a local hospital for treatment, according to the coroner’s report.

The northbound lanes of I-79 between the Kirby and Mt. Morris exits were closed until shortly before 10 a.m., state police said.
