Charleroi authority leader retires
Ed Golanka has retired following 32 years with the Authority of the Borough of Charleroi, the past 14 as general manager. Chuck Cardinale, who has 28 years of ABC service, most recently as assistant general manager, has been promoted to succeed him.
Those moves took effect Nov. 1.
ABC’s water division serves the boroughs of Bentleyville, Charleroi, Donora, Dunlevy, Ellsworth, North Charleroi, Speers and Twilight, and the townships of Fallowfield and Somerset in Washington County; and the city of Monessen and parts of Rostraver Township in Westmoreland County.
The sewer division provides sewer services in Charleroi, Dunlevy, Fallowfield, North Charleroi and Speers.
Rostraver senior care: Community LIFE, which provides all-inclusive care for seniors, will open a Health and Wellness Center in Rostraver Township next summer – at the intersection of Route 51 and Snyder Lane.
The health-care provider has five Health and Wellness centers and has been serving Allegheny and Westmoreland counties for 18 years. It opened a facility in Bedford this year and plans to expand into Somerset County in 2020.

Grazing conference: The 2019 Appalachian Grazing Conference has been scheduled for March 7-9 at the Morgantown (W.Va.) Marriott at Waterfront Place Hotel.
Farm economics, conservation strategies and long-term sustainment of productivity will be the focuses. Management of soil, water, plants and animal health will be discussed.
The event will begin March 7 with a pre-conference bus tour of West Virginia University’s Animal Science Farm facilities. There will be about 20 breakout sessions over the following two days.
