Mother, adult son found dead in Cumberland Township home
A mother and her adult son were found dead Thursday afternoon in their Cumberland Township home.
Anna Mae Vrana, 90, and her son, David Vrana 57, were found dead in their respective beds after police officers entered the home at 360 Ceylon Road near Carmichaels to perform a welfare check, Cumberland Township police Chief Bryan Smith said.
Smith said the two had not been seen by neighbors for two weeks, and the department was notified late last week that they may have left the area or were missing. Police officers decided to enter the home Thursday afternoon and found they had been dead for several days.
“We had no information that they were in the house until we checked a few things. There was no activity,” Smith said of phone, banking and vehicle records. “Different people (in the Carmichaels area) hadn’t seen or heard from them for a while.”
He said investigators do not suspect foul play was involved, but are awaiting the results of the autopsies, which were performed Friday afternoon, to determine the cause and manner of their deaths. Smith added that there were no physical signs to indicate that it was a murder-suicide, but he wanted to learn the results of toxicology tests, which could take up to two weeks to be returned, before making a final determination.
“There’s no danger to the community,” Smith said. “Pending the results of the autopsy, we’ll go from there.”
