Men detained over stolen U-Haul in Elco
Two out-of-state men are in custody after police accused one of them of driving a stolen U-Haul vehicle Sunday in Elco.
Roscoe, Elco, Stockdale and Allenport Regional police arrested Davon Martise Brassell, 23, of Mississippi, and Charles M. Brooks, 22, of Michigan, in the case Sunday, court records show.
Police pulled Brassell over about 5:10 p.m. after an officer determined he was driving 60 mph, 25 miles over the speed limit on Route 88, the records show.
The truck had been reported stolen from U-Haul because someone failed to return it on time. Located in the vehicle were blank gift cards, a scanner and laptop, the record indicates.
It was not immediately known Friday why the men were in the Mon Valley.
Both suspects are charged with conspiracy, receiving stolen property and possession of an instrument of a crime. Brassell is also charged with theft and cited for driving without a license and speeding.
They were placed in Washington County Jail, each on $25,000 bond set by District Judge Ethan Ward.
