This election year is filled with choices for each of us. You choose to have a voice or stay home and complain. It is obvious that voters are upset over the present political situation, as seen by the many grass-roots groups forming and taking action. This is good. Choice is always better.
The choice for our representative for the 18th Congressional District couldn’t be more clear. Conor Lamb stands for the values we hold dear. The Republican candidate, Rick Saccone, has aligned himself with President Trump, a man who, at the very least, has questionable moral character. Saccone preaches about getting government “out of our business,” but he has no problem voting for legislation dictating what women can do with their own bodies.
Voters in the 18th Congressional District can ill afford another threat to our Social Security and Medicare because, regardless of what he espouses at campaign stops, Saccone will do exactly what his “small government” cohorts have wanted to do forever — eliminate entitlements, meaning our safety nets of Social Security and Medicare.
We all want good health care, good schools or nursing home care for our families. We must vote to protect and keep these benefits. We need legislators who will protect us by keeping us safe and healthy.
It’s not “big government.” It’s a way of looking at people’s lives and making the changes necessary to better our nation. We led the world once in innovation, freedom, and independence. We shouldn’t go back to the days of the 1920s, when only those who could afford services were deemed worthy to receive them.
