Washington police arrested two men accused of pointing handguns during separate incidents over the weekend.

Kyle R. Caldwell, 22, of 725 Broad St., Washington, is charged with terroristic threats, reckless endangerment, simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct in connection with an incident outside his home early Sunday.

Brian Michael Cortez Szafranski, 28, of 829 N. Main St., Washington, is charged with terroristic threats, reckless endangerment, harassment and disorderly conduct after an incident outside his apartment building early Saturday.

Police were called about 12:15 a.m. to 725 Broad for a report of a man pointing a gun at several people and threatening them. When police arrived, a woman told them Caldwell had come there looking to fight her brother. Caldwell was reportedly upset because he was told he could not bring his friends back to the residence.

The woman went outside with a friend and her brother to tell Caldwell and his friends to leave. When she told him she was going to call police, Caldwell allegedly pulled a handgun from a holster on his right hip, pointed the gun at her, told her “calling the cops would be the worst mistake” and threatened to shoot her.

Caldwell and another man got into a physical confrontation. One of Caldwell’s friends reportedly took the gun and fled. The friends eventually returned, and police said they found a gun in the trunk of a car.

Police said they charged Caldwell’s girlfriend, Taylor Chambers, 22, also of 725 Broad, with disorderly conduct and public drunkenness after she allegedly refused to follow orders by officers to go inside the house during the incident. She reportedly became irate when police took Caldwell into custody.

Police were called early Saturday for a report of a man with a gun on a porch at the North Main Street apartment building. A man told police Szafranski, who is his neighbor, was on the porch pointing a gun at the caller’s door and security camera.

Police said they were able to review surveillance from the security camera and identified Szafranski. He was taken into custody. A silver revolver was found on top of a kitchen cabinet in his apartment, police said.

Both men were arraigned before District Judge Gary Havelka. Caldwell was placed in Washington County jail on $25,000 bond. Szafranski was released from jail after posting $5,000 bond. Both are scheduled for Feb. 21 preliminary hearings before District Judge Robert Redlinger.
