Washington County schedules hazardous waste collection in July
Washington County Planning Commission will collect household hazardous waste from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 21, at Washington County Fairgrounds.
The Washington County commissioners unanimously voted Thursday to pay $6,500 to the Pennsylvania Resource Council, which will hire the hauler and handle disposal.
Washington County will provide the venue and staff the event with volunteers.
Asked about substances the collectors will accept at the annual drive, Lisa Cessna, executive director of the planning commission, replied, “All that old stuff collecting in your basement or garage.” She gave as examples pesticides, liquid paint, batteries, oil and old fuel.
Dried paint in cans can be disposed of during normal trash collection, she noted.
The collection is open to everyone in the region, not just residents.
There is a $3 per gallon disposal fee for the collection. Only cash will be accepted.
