A Chartiers Township man was arrested Monday night by state police at a Canton Township housing complex after he allegedly assaulted a Washington man for the second time in three months.

Lloyd F. Harper, 53, of Barnickle Street, Meadow Lands, is accused of assaulting 49-year-old Joseph V. Alderson about 6:30 p.m. at an apartment at Belvedere Acres, Bel Air Drive.

When state police arrived, Alderson was being placed in an ambulance to be taken to Washington Hospital. Police said he had a large cut on his head and there was a large amount of blood. Alderson reportedly told police Harper struck him with some type of stick.

Police found Harper behind one of the buildings in the complex. He had a wound on his left arm that was bleeding, apparently as a result of the altercation, police said.

Alderson told police he and Harper got into an argument. Alderson said he had initially grabbed the stick, but somehow Harper ended up with it and hit him. Police said Alderson had a 4-inch laceration on the right side of his head and a broken left arm.

Harper was charged last month by Chartiers police with simple assault and harassment for allegedly assaulting Alderson Dec. 19. Alderson had reportedly gone to Harper’s home to visit and bring beer.

The two men reportedly got into an argument. Harper allegedly pushed Alderson into a television stand before he and his girlfriend fled. Harper was later found on the porch of his home, and told police Alderson jumped him.

Alderson was taken to Washington Hospital and later transferred to UPMC-Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment of broken ribs and a fractured disc.

Harper was arraigned Tuesday morning before District Judge Joshua Kanalis on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault and harassment. He was placed in Washington County jail on $5,000 bond. Harper faces a Feb. 27 preliminary hearing before Mark on the Chartiers charges and a March 13 hearing before Mark on the state police charges.
